Lander Drop-In Center Offers a Safe Space for Mental Health Screenings

  • Local Champion: Fremont Counseling Services
  • Date Funded: February 8, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $9,959

Lander residents who struggle with mental health issues don’t always have a sense of community, and they lack spaces where they can find solidarity. To address this problem, Fremont Counseling Services, which currently serves about 400 people in Lander, hoped to create a dedicated drop-in center—a space where people would find a non-threatening environment and receive free mental health screenings. While Fremont Counseling Services already had a building in mind, they needed a little help outfitting the space to make it as welcoming as possible for the nearly 150 people they expect to take advantage of it. With LOR’s help, they purchased a gas fireplace, a washer and dryer, window coverings, and other equipment to provide a safe space for anyone who drops in.
