Kitchen Equipment Strengthens Taos Rodeo Grounds as Community Hub

  • Local Champion: Taos County Sheriffs Posse
  • Date Funded: May 14, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $9,972

The kitchen at the rodeo grounds serves as an important hub for free community events, youth activities, rodeos, and emergency operations throughout Taos County. However, the facility currently lacks the commercial-grade equipment needed to safely and efficiently prepare and serve food, limiting its ability to fully support both community gatherings and emergency response efforts. The need became especially apparent following recent wildfires, which underscored the site’s role as a community coordination center. After discussions with local partners highlighted the need for improved kitchen capacity, the Sheriff’s Posse approached LOR with a practical solution: equip the facility with commercial-grade kitchen equipment to better serve residents during both everyday events and times of crisis. With support from LOR, the Sheriff’s Posse will purchase refrigeration and freezer units, an ice maker, roaster ovens, beverage dispensers, and folding tables and chairs for the rodeo grounds facility. These upgrades will enable the site to more effectively host free community events, rodeos, and youth activities throughout the year, while strengthening its ability to serve as an emergency meal-preparation and support center during disasters and other large-scale emergencies.
