Investment in New Strategies Helps Taos Businesses Thrive

  • Local Champion: Taos County
  • Date Funded: March 28, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,200

The Historic Downtown District in Taos is an important part of the town’s heritage and a crucial pillar of its economic health. However, the county’s Economic Development office lacked a formal mechanism to identify at-risk local businesses, which meant they were missing opportunities to provide support and prevent closures. A county employee contacted LOR with an idea to solve this problem: develop a Business Retention and Expansion program to help the Economic Development team identify business opportunities, challenges, and risks and better understand the workforce needs of businesses in Taos County.

LOR’s support will fund a 12-week stipend for an intern who will collaborate with local stakeholders to create proactive development strategies and tools that support a thriving and resilient business environment in Taos for years to come.
