Adaptive Equipment Library Opens Mountain Access for Lander Families

  • Local Champion: A Lander local
  • Date Funded: June 9, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $15,000

When the parent of a child with a rare genetic disorder that affects his depth perception realized the condition made it unsafe for him to hike on uneven terrain with his active family, she started speaking with other families facing similar barriers. She realized many residents wanted to get outside together but the cost of adaptive outdoor equipment made that difficult. So she came up with the idea to launch TrekAbility, a community library of adaptive hiking equipment designed for people of all ages, abilities, and body types. LOR’s funding helped purchase hiking carts, all-terrain wheelchairs, and child carriers, along with creating checkout procedures and marketing materials. By reducing financial barriers and making equipment accessible, TrekAbility helps Lander families of all abilities experience the mountains together.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Lander Community Foundation.
