Gas Cards and Bus Passes Help UNM-Taos Students Succeed

  • Local Champion: The University Of New Mexico
  • Date Funded: June 18, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $6,740

Low-income students at the University of New Mexico–Taos face significant barriers to academic success, including limited access to reliable transportation. Without consistent ways to get to class, many students struggle to stay enrolled and complete their education. One student resource navigator recognized these challenges were limiting the potential of a number of students, so she came up with a solution: gas cards and bus passes. LOR’s funding helped UNM-Taos purchase more than 350 bus passes and 30 gas cards for students living outside designated bus pickup zones. LOR’s support also helped UNM-Taos purchase shower vouchers for students in need, ensuring low-income students can fully pursue their educational goals while also maintaining their well-being.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Downtown Taos.
