Field Trip Support Engages Head Start Families in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: Monte Vista Community Center Inc.
  • Date Funded: March 30, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $4,000

Many Monte Vista families face economic challenges that limit their ability to participate in school activities, with barriers such as transportation constraints and competing financial priorities making it difficult for parents to attend educational field trips with their children.

After recognizing that admission and fuel costs were preventing families from taking part in these experiences—despite parent engagement being a cornerstone of the Head Start model—a Monte Vista Head Start staff member reached out to LOR with a solution.

LOR’s funding will cover parent admission fees for three educational field trips and provide gas cards to offset transportation costs, supporting approximately 60 families throughout the school year. This support will enable parents to join their children in hands-on experiences in science, nature, culture, and community exploration, strengthening parent-child relationships and connections between home and school while reducing financial barriers for families.
