Public Meeting Answers Taos Community’s Questions About Upcoming Construction

  • Local Champion: Downtown Taos
  • Date Funded: March 20, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $3,500

When community members learned about plans for a major highway construction project that would cut through the heart of downtown Taos, many expressed concerns about how the project would impact residents, traffic, and local businesses both during and after construction.

A Taos MainStreet employee and a Chamber of Commerce member reached out to LOR with an idea to increase community awareness about what to expect and provide residents with an opportunity to voice questions and concerns: host a public facilitated session with officials from the New Mexico Department of Transportation (the agency spearheading the project). LOR’s support will fund the planning, promotion, and production of the event—including the recruitment of a professional facilitator to ensure a productive dialogue—and the creation of a resource guide to be shared with businesses impacted by the upcoming construction.
