Equipment Library Helps Bring Community Meetings to More Remote Areas in Taos

  • Local Champion: Downtown Taos
  • Date Funded: September 17, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $16,358

Many organizations in Taos have expressed a commitment to increasing equitable access to community meetings for folks who live in remote areas. However, as they attempted to host meetings in more diverse locations, such as community centers, they discovered they did not have the equipment necessary to inform or engage attendees. So, a local volunteer reached out to LOR with an idea: create a new equipment lending program that will enable groups within the community to check out equipment (and corresponding instructional materials) to support meetings at more remote venues.

LOR’s funding will cover the cost of equipment, including but not limited to extension cords, easels, a portable projector, a Bluetooth speaker and microphone, a PA system, and portable power stations. Taos MainStreet will store and manage the equipment, which will be available to numerous community collaborators, including the Town of Taos, Taos County, Taos County Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Development Center at UNM-Taos, UNM Taos HIVE, and the Taos County Economic Development Corporation.
