Communication Gear Keeps Weiser’s Dive Team Connected

  • Local Champion: Washington County Sheriff’s Office
  • Date Funded: July 18, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $16,800

As water sports have gained popularity in the Weiser area, Washington County’s underwater rescue team has been responding to a growing number of rescue calls. The problem is the team still relies on outdated communication methods that limit the safety and efficacy of murky water rescues (visibility is often extremely limited in local waters). One deputy with the dive team thought modern communication technology could improve rescue operations, so he reached out to LOR with his idea. LOR’s funding will help the Washington County Sheriff’s Office purchase masks with integrated voice communication systems, allowing divers to speak with each other and surface support teams in real-time. The new equipment will enable better coordination while improving diver safety, helping first responders better protect the community.
