Calming Spaces Inside Taos Classrooms Preserve Important Instruction Time

  • Local Champion: Nurturing Time
  • Date Funded: March 10, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $6,800

After observing that when Taos students with mental and behavioral health issues are sent out of the classroom, it disrupts learning for the individual student and the classroom as well, educators, students, and mental health professionals at Enos Garcia Elementary School came up with a solution. They want to pilot small, calming spaces within elementary school classrooms that let students develop skills to regulate emotions without losing—and disrupting—important classroom instruction time. LOR’s support will help purchase the supplies needed to launch these calming spaces at Enos Garcia.
