Bill Metz Elementary Teachers Combat Burnout With New Revitalization Space

  • Local Champion: Bill Metz Elementary
  • Date Funded: October 28, 2022
  • Grant Amount: $8,600

Teachers and staff at Bill Metz Elementary School in Monte Vista have showed signs of burnout in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, a problem that has impacted their performance in the classroom and their lives at home. To address the pervasive issue, teachers and administrators have been trying implement mental health self-help strategies but realized it would be useful to have a dedicated space to do so. With help from LOR, Bill Metz Elementary was able to retrofit a room with massage chairs, weighted blankets, an exercise machine, and other amenities that will help teachers and staff practice mindfulness throughout the day—an effort that will pay off when they return to the classroom.
