An Educational Booklet Helps Libby Residents Understand Forest Management

  • Local Champion: Lincoln County Port Authority
  • Date Funded: September 30, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $9,582

Forest management can reduce wildfire risks and improve habitat for endangered species like grizzly bears, but many Libby residents don’t understand how these practices can benefit local ecosystems and communities. The Lincoln County Port Authority has been partnering with forestry agencies, logging companies, and research institutions to develop sustainable forestry practices. As the group conducts educational tours and presentations to share their findings, staff wanted to create a resource that participants could take home and share with others. In need of support, they reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help the Lincoln County Port Authority hire professional writers and designers to create an eight-page informational booklet explaining Libby’s Grizzly Bear Adaptive Management Research Project and local forest management efforts. The booklet will be distributed at community presentations, visitor centers, and local businesses, helping residents understand how forest management practices support both wildlife conservation and the community.
