Restoration Workshops Offer Ancestral Knowledge and Skill-Building Opportunities in Taos

Taos is known for its many adobe homes and commercial buildings, including the Taos Pueblo, which was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1992.

Adobe is a sustainable and durable building material, and with proper maintenance, adobe homes can last for decades or even centuries. However, an increasing number of adobe houses in Taos are in need of repair, and most residents lack the knowledge and skills to restore their ancestral homes. So, a Taos Historic Museums team member reached out to LOR with an idea: provide a series of free workshops where locals can learn and apply the skills needed to repair and preserve adobe-style buildings.

LOR’s funding will cover the cost of producing five skill-building workshops, including expenses like hiring adobe restoration experts, sourcing construction materials, providing lunch for workshop participants, and promoting the classes within the community via print and radio ads.
