Adding a Food Program Enhances a Vital Fremont County Emergency Shelter

  • Local Champion: Wind River Family and Community Health Care
  • Date Funded: January 15, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $10,000

During Fremont County’s harsh winter months, the Warming Hut (which is part of the Northern Arapaho-run Wind River Cares clinic) provides the county’s only emergency overnight shelter, serving hundreds of people, including many from Lander, each month. While the shelter offers crucial protection from the cold, many guests arrive hungry with no way to prepare food or access hot meals. When shelter staff saw this pressing need, they reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help the Warming Hut launch a food program that provides warm breakfast, dinner, and take-away snacks—ensuring unhoused locals not only have a warm place to sleep but also food to help them through each day.
