‘Activity Bus’ Expands Experiential Learning for Children in Taos

  • Local Champion: Anansi Charter School
  • Date Funded: September 24, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $19,150

Anansi Charter School strives to promote a love of learning through engaging, innovative educational practices and community partnerships. However, a lack of affordable transportation options made it challenging for teachers to extend learning outside of the traditional classroom setting, so a school employee reached out to LOR with an idea: purchase a used bus to transport Anansi students to offsite activities.

LOR’s support will enable the purchase of a used school bus, which will enrich learning for the school’s 198 students by providing them with access to activities and field trips, including but not limited to experiential trips in partnership with the Harwood Museum of Art, anthropological trips in partnership with the Archaeological Society of New Mexico, life sciences trips developed in collaboration with Game and Fish, the BLM, and National Forest Services, and free winter sports programming in Taos Ski Valley.
