A Repair Program Revives Instruments at Montezuma-Cortez High School

  • Local Champion: A Montezuma-Cortez Student
  • Date Funded: December 14, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $10,000

Many students just want to do their best, and that is certainly the case for band members at Montezuma-Cortez High School. The problem is many of the band’s instruments are in disrepair. Only 15% of students use their own instruments. The rest use the school’s, which range from needing minor repairs to complete refurbishments. Adding to the challenge, the school’s closest repair shop three towns over has closed. A student wanted to help the budding musicians at Montezuma-Cortez reach their full potential, so he came up with a solution: create a new instrument repair program. LOR’s funding will support the purchase of supplies to create a new repair workstation at the school and help to cover much needed professional care for French horns, tubas, and other instruments.

This project was fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
