A Pet Food Pantry Keeps Taos Families with Their Companions

  • Local Champion: Stray Hearts Animal Shelter
  • Date Funded: January 30, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $7,500

Rising costs are making it difficult for many Taos families to care for their pets. In some cases, families are forced to make the heartbreaking decision to surrender their animal companions to local shelters, a problem that is only growing. Recognizing the need, staff at Stray Hearts Animal Shelter developed a prevention-focused solution: establish a pet food pantry to help families keep their beloved pets at home. In need of support, they reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help Stray Hearts purchase and distribute pet food for up to 600 local households, ensuring more families can keep their pets and connect with additional resources like low-cost veterinary care and spay/neuter services.
