A New Cistern Provides Battle Rock Students Safe Drinking Water

  • Local Champion: Battle Rock Charter School
  • Date Funded: March 1, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $29,995

When the well on the Battle Rock Charter School campus went bad, the water could no longer be used for drinking, hand washing, or cooking for students, teachers and staff. Worse, there were no outside sources of potable water on campus. With this problem in mind, a Battle Rock teacher approached the LOR Foundation with a potential solution: Purchase and install a cistern that could be used by the school, as well as by visitors to campus including cyclists pedaling through nearby McElmo Canyon and Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. With help from the LOR Foundation, Battle Rock will install the cistern this spring and purchase water from the Cortez Water Station, which can be hauled to the school.
