A Local Assessment Helps Montezuma County Support Its Seniors

  • Local Champion: Montezuma County Department of Social Services
  • Date Funded: May 23, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $11,100

Cortez’s senior population continues to grow, as does that of surrounding Montezuma County. Yet, in conversations with local seniors, staff with the Montezuma County Department of Social Services were finding many gaps in local resources. After coordinating with county commissioners and Montezuma County Senior Services, the director of the Department of Social Services reached out to LOR with an idea: hire an AmeriCorps member to assess the resources Montezuma County currently has and will need for its growing number of senior citizens. LOR’s funding will support the cost of an AmeriCorps volunteer for one year, helping Montezuma County create an resource directory and develop a new strategy for serving its elderly residents.
