A Community Campaign Connects Libby Families to Solutions for Teen Mental Health

  • Local Champion: Lincoln County Unite for Youth
  • Date Funded: February 22, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $8,300

Libby has experienced multiple teen suicides in the recent years. While local families and kids know that youth mental health is a challenge, there is less awareness around issues like digital health and social media use, as well the local, state, and national resources available to help families navigate these complex issues. Over a year ago, hundreds of Libby community members gathered for a showing of “Screenagers,” a documentary that explores the disorienting digital world kids and families now must navigate. While many of those in attendance felt like they gained valuable skills, they also left wanting more. Staff with Lincoln County Unite for Youth, a local nonprofit, reached out to LOR for support launching a community campaign that would raise awareness about both the problems and the solutions around teen mental health in Libby. LOR’s funding will help Lincoln County Unite for Youth purchase a three-year membership to show “Screenagers” and its two sequel films, create a retractable banner that highlights the impact of positive relationships, and print posters, flyers, and other materials to raise awareness and connect parents, families, and kids to mental health resources.
