A Botanical Field Guide Enhances Visitor Experience at Cortez’s Canyons of the Ancients

  • Local Champion: A Cortez local
  • Date Funded: April 25, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $7,140

Without a designated guidebook or other educational materials, local and out-of-town visitors often miss the rich botanical diversity of Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. A retired Cortez botanist and volunteer wanted to solve this problem, so she decided to create a comprehensive plant guide to help visitors identify flora in the area. LOR’s funding helped the local print 2,000 copies of the field guide, which features photographs and descriptions of plants found throughout the monument, creating a lasting educational resource that will enhance the experience of visitors for years to come.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
