A Biennial Cultural Festival Celebrates Taos Heritage

  • Local Champion: Couse Foundation
  • Date Funded: June 22, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $5,000

Taos families have few free opportunities to learn about their community’s rich cultural heritage, leaving them without knowledge of important local traditions and history. Staff with the Couse-Sharp Historic Site wanted to strengthen Taos locals’ sense of place and reconnect them with the community’s past, so they reached out to LOR with an idea: a free biennial celebration that explores Taos’ past, present, and future. LOR’s funding will help the Couse-Sharp Historic Site purchase supplies and materials for the inaugural event, “¡Que Viva!”, including marketing materials, food, and a historic carousel rental. The June celebration will feature local artists, traditional performances by Taos locals, hands-on activities for children, and exhibitions that preserve and share Taos’ multicultural legacy.
