Cortez Teachers Receive Training to Help Families Grow Stronger

  • Local Champion: Dare to be You
  • Date Funded: April 7, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $7,300

Cortez and Montezuma County have among the highest incidence of child abuse in the state of Colorado, and many parents don’t have the information and support they need to adopt healthy parenting practices. For decades, a Cortez local has been trying to address this problem via a program called Dare to Be You, a family-strengthening class that focuses on problem-solving, role modeling, and other key tenets. Recently, the founders of the program realized a need to bring new facilitators into the program in order to reach more families—and they determined preschool teachers would be a natural fit. Funding from the LOR Foundation was used to hire a trainer and purchase materials necessary to get 10 to 15 teachers certified via the Strengthening Families program.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation
