An Anthology and Writers Group Elevate Cortez Authors

The Four Corners region is home to many talented writers. A new book and nonprofit are giving them a platform.

Four Corners Writers published its first ever "Four Corners Voices" anthology in 2024, highlighting nearly 50 authors and poets from Cortez and the surrounding Four Corners region.

A small group of authors founded Cortez’s Four Corners Writers group around 2018. The informal support group offered writers a community where they could share their work, sharpen their craft, and learn the business of writing. In recent years, as interest in Four Corners Writers has grown, the group has turned to hosting monthly workshops at Cortez’s ZU Gallery, becoming the center of writing in Cortez. In 2024, some of the group’s founding members saw an opportunity to further support and promote local poets and writers. Their idea? Transform Four Corners Writers into a formal nonprofit and publish a local anthology. LOR’s funding helped Four Corners Writers file for nonprofit status and design, publish, and print “Four Corners Voices,” an anthology featuring poetry, short stories, and essays from nearly 50 of the area’s talented writers. Watch the video below to learn more about Four Corners Writers and they group’s efforts to empower and elevate Cortez authors!
