Transportation Ensures Equal Access to Ski Program for Taos-area Students

  • Local Champion: PTA New Mexico Congress
  • Date Funded: December 11, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $2,496

Arroyos del Norte Elementary families lacked reliable, affordable transportation to Taos Ski Valley for the school’s winter ski program, creating a barrier to participation—especially for students from low-income households, putting them at risk of missing the program entirely.

To help address this equity gap, members of the Arroyos del Norte PTA identified a solution and reached out to LOR: secure group transportation so all participating students could access the ski program on equal footing with their peers at other schools.

With support from LOR, Arroyos del Norte Elementary will secure a bus and driver for five weekly ski trips throughout the winter season. The transportation will serve approximately 50 students, who will also receive free equipment and lessons from Taos Ski Valley, along with access to winter gear through the district’s LOR-funded winter accessory library. This modest investment removes the final barrier to participation, ensuring no child is excluded due to transportation challenges.
