Terminal Repairs Make Lander Airport Accessible and Functional for Growing User Groups

  • Local Champion: City of Lander
  • Date Funded: April 15, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $19,085

In Lander, the airport terminal serves multiple user groups daily—pilots flying health care professionals in and out of town, local pilot groups, flight school students of all ages learning to fly, and soon volunteer pilots hoping to transport children to specialty medical appointments across the region. But the Hastings Terminal hasn’t received attention since it was built and dedicated to a local pilot decades ago, leaving it in disrepair with bathrooms that aren’t ADA-compliant. When a pilot’s wife reached out to LOR and learned how the foundation works, she was inspired to address problems facing Lander pilots. Working with multiple user groups and the city—which owns the building—she developed a plan to restore the terminal’s functionality. The project requires closing the building while volunteers empty and clean it, contractors repair drywall and replace 1970s-era flooring with materials the city already has from another project, and new ADA-compliant bathroom fixtures are installed. These accessibility improvements are essential not just for regulatory compliance but to ensure all residents—including children needing specialty care outside Lander—can use the terminal. LOR’s funding will help cover contractor labor for repairs, painting, flooring replacement, and fixture installation, plus ADA-compliant bathroom equipment and signage.
