Student-Led Educational Videos Share Greenhouse Knowledge in Cortez

  • Local Champion: Needful Provision, Inc.
  • Date Funded: January 15, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $3,500

Students at Cortez’s Southwest Open School have learned innovative growing techniques in the school’s newly built greenhouse, a project funded in part by LOR. But without a way to share their knowledge, these valuable gardening lessons remain confined to the classroom. When one staff member with Needful Provisions saw an opportunity to spread student’s new greenhouse expertise, he reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help Needful Provisions hire a local videographer and editor to create instructional videos featuring Southwest Open School students and teachers. The educational videos will be available on YouTube and distributed on DVD to schools with limited internet access, ensuring that sustainable growing practices can benefit the broader Cortez community and schools throughout the region.
