STEAM Fridays Offer Support for Questa Families

  • Local Champion: Questa Independent School District
  • Date Funded: December 11, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $2,500

Like many children across the Mountain West, elementary-aged students in Questa do not have school on Fridays. The lack of enrichment or extracurricular opportunities available to fill that void created a problem for families, so a group of local teachers came up with a solution. What if they could help provide supervised STEAM programming that addressed the learning and childcare gaps Questa families face? LOR’s support enabled the district to contract with Twirl, a Taos-based nonprofit, to provide a half-day of hands-on STEAM activities for Questa Elementary School students on campus every other Friday at no charge to families, supporting students’ continued growth and learning into the future.
