Retractable Bollards Create a Safer School Environment for Questa Students

  • Local Champion: Questa Independent School District
  • Date Funded: November 13, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $24,000

After unsettling events in the community last summer, Questa students, teachers, and administrators are concerned about safety and security at each of the town’s schools. While many security measures are prohibitively expensive, school staff identified one cost-effective solution that would deter harmful activities. Retractable bollards, which would serve as barriers to the school entrance, are metal retractable posts installed underground that move up and down. With help from the LOR Foundation, Questa Independent School District was able to purchase two bollards for each campus, giving staff more control over what vehicles can enter while also maintaining an inviting environment for students.
