Updated Infrastructure Helps Supply Questa Aquifer

  • Local Champion: Questa Citizens Ditch Association
  • Date Funded: May 14, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $28,074

Questa residents depend on proper irrigation and water management to replenish the local aquifer. However, when the local ditch associations contacted LOR, many head gates in the area—that should have been controlling water flow—were broken, leaking, or missing completely. This meant that the community was losing water that should have flowed into the aquifer, which serves as Questa’s primary source of drinking water. Members of the ditch associations reached out with a solution: work with volunteers to replace and maintain updated infrastructure, including head gates, piping, and culverts, to maximize the amount of water directed into the aquifer for community use.

LOR’s support will cover the costs of purchasing the necessary equipment and supplies and fund the various contracted jobs essential to improving water management in the ditches.
