New Public Transit Buses Keep Transportation Affordable and Accessible for Lander

  • Local Champion: Wind River Transportation Authority
  • Date Funded: May 22, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $26,186

In Lander, public transportation ridership hit an all-time high in January 2026, but the aging buses that residents depend on have mounting repair costs that would need to be passed on to riders if not replaced. When the director of Wind River Transportation Authority reached out to LOR, he explained that three buses needed replacement to keep services reliable and affordable. Federal funding for replacement is available, but a local matching requirement must be met. LOR’s funding satisfies this requirement and allows the organization to procure three new 14-passenger buses without passing high maintenance costs or fare increases on to riders. The new buses will keep services reliable and growing, ensuring Lander residents continue to have affordable transportation options. LOR’s modest funding as part of a larger public investment means one request results in three new vehicles for community use.
