New Museum Connects Cortez Residents to the Community’s Rich History

  • Local Champion: Montezuma County Historical Society
  • Date Funded: April 7, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $10,000

While Cortez has a rich and diverse history, there has never been a central community space to learn about it. That’s changing, however, as the newly opened Montezuma Heritage Museum seeks to connect Cortez residents to the area’s dynamic past. Still, many community members don’t know the museum exists, which prompted its leaders to reach out to the LOR Foundation with a potential solution. With funding from LOR, the museum is working with a marketing professional to create educational brochures, advertising plans, and signage to draw both locals and visitors to the new community asset.
