New Barricades Improve Event Safety in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: City of Monte Vista
  • Date Funded: August 3, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $14,090

As community events in Monte Vista have grown in size and attendance, the City’s existing inventory of traffic control equipment has fallen short of what is needed to safely manage vehicle and pedestrian traffic—at times leaving staff to use twine to block roadways when adequate barricades weren’t available. Recognizing the gap and the risks it posed to residents and visitors, a City employee reached out to LOR with an idea: purchase new equipment to improve traffic flow, reduce safety risks, and create a more organized environment for Monte Vista residents and visitors. LOR’s funding will help the City of Monte Vista purchase 45 A-frame barricade kits, 80 all-orange traffic cones with reflective collars, 30 all-plastic Type II barricades with HIP sheeting, and 10 Type II barricades with arrow legends. City staff will also be trained on the proper deployment and use of the new equipment before it is used at community events. The equipment will also be available to support law enforcement operations and emergency situations. These durable assets will play an important role in keeping community events—and the people who attend them—safe for years to come.
