Free First Aid Training Prepares Weiser Locals to Save Lives

  • Local Champion: Bee Tree Folk School
  • Date Funded: March 19, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $5,855

You never know the value of first aid training until an emergency happens. In rural communities, where first responders are often stretched thin and distances to emergency care can be significant, first aid training is especially important. One Weiser volunteer saw a dearth of local first aid training, leaving many residents without the skills and confidence they needed to respond to emergencies. Hoping to address the problem, she connected with Bee Tree Folk School. Together, they collaborated on a solution for a series of free first aid and CPR classes for Weiser residents. While they had many pieces in place, the team needed a hand with the equipment for the program. After hearing about LOR on social media, the volunteer reached out for support. LOR’s funding will help the group purchase 50 CPR and 50 “Stop the Bleed” kits, as well as a wound management manikin. The new classes will teach residents techniques like CPR, tourniquets, and wound packing, preparing them to save lives.
