Barn Quilts Bring New Energy and Foot Traffic to Downtown Cortez

  • Local Champion: Two Cortez locals
  • Date Funded: May 14, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $3,118

Downtown Cortez attracts visitors with its mural walking tour, but the experience doesn’t always draw people into local businesses. Seeing an opportunity to build on this energy and create a new economic driver, two local quilters had an idea. LOR’s funding helped them purchase supplies to create and display ten hand-painted barn quilts at downtown businesses. The self-guided barn quilt trail will give locals and visitors a fun reason to explore Main Street, connecting them with businesses and nonprofits.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
