An Emergency Daytime Shelter Protects Taos Residents

  • Local Champion: DreamTree Project, Inc.
  • Date Funded: January 23, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $5,800

DreamTree Project’s NEST shelter currently only provides overnight services, so during winter cold snaps Taos residents experiencing homelessness have nowhere to stay warm during daylight hours, putting them at risk when temperatures plummet to dangerous levels. When local agencies saw a forecast for extreme cold as low as -25 F, staff quickly came together and came up with solution: expand NEST’s operations to include daytime hours. In need of support, they reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help DreamTree provide staffing and meals for NEST’s expanded daytime services, ensuring Taos’ most vulnerable residents have a safe and warm place to stay.
