An ADA-Compliant Playground Brings the Fun for Libby Kids

  • Local Champion: Libby Elementary School Parent Council
  • Date Funded: April 15, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $25,999

Libby Elementary School’s current playground isn’t safe. It’s also not accessible for children with disabilities. Aging and inaccessible playground equipment might seem minor, but in Libby, where roughly 20% of the city’s population is under 18, it’s a big problem. Members of the Libby Elementary School Parent Council wanted to create a safe, accessible playground for Libby kids. The group secured local funding and support from local businesses (Libby Public Schools did not have the budget), but it fell short of the money needed to build a playground compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. So, one member of the parent council reached out to LOR for help getting the project across the finish line. LOR’s funding will help the Libby Elementary School Parent Council purchase a Galveston playground system, giving local K-6 students a new place for fun.
