A Toddler Room Expands Child Care for Cortez’s Working Parents

  • Local Champion: Children's Kiva Montessori School Early Childhood Program
  • Date Funded: September 11, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $10,000

Many rural communities in the Mountain West struggle with child care. Cortez is no different. Families with toddlers have few options for day care, forcing many parents to choose between caring for their child and working full time. Staff with Children’s Kiva Montessori School wanted to create a new toddler room to help alleviate the burden for Cortez families. To get the room up and running, the school needed to purchase day care supplies and other new equipment to meet state standards. Buying those items was going to be a challenge because Children’s Kiva Montessori operates on a sliding scale, with all families receiving discounted tuition because of their incomes. So one staff member reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help purchase tables, chairs, playground equipment, a sand/water table, and a range of other supplies, aiding the school as it gives Cortez’s working parents much needed relief.
