A Stair Lift Transforms a Libby Space Into a Community Resource

  • Local Champion: American Legion Post 97
  • Date Funded: August 6, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $17,895

Libby’s American Legion Post 97 is a hub of the community. The group’s building serves Libby’s veterans and other community groups, hosting meetings, meals, and other small events. But the post’s board wanted to do more for local veterans and the Libby community. The group had a large community space on the second story of its building that it wanted to open for greater public use. The problem was the second floor was only reachable by stairs, an issue for the many Libby residents and American Legion Post members who have physical ailments. Looking for a solution, one post member came up with an answer: a stair lift. LOR’s funding helped American Legion Post 97 purchase and install a stair lift, transforming the group’s second floor space into a community resource for all Libby locals.

This project was fiscally sponsored by Kootenai Country Montana.
