A Snow Compactor Completes Maintenance for Libby’s Nordic Trails

  • Local Champion: The Kootenai Cross Country Ski Club
  • Date Funded: March 16, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $8,000

LOR previously funded a trail groomer for Libby’s 13-mile Nordic ski trail system, but the groomer alone cannot maintain skiable conditions after heavy snowfall. Without equipment to compact the snow before grooming, many trails remain unsafe, limiting access during Libby’s long winter season. Volunteers with the Kootenai Nordic Club wanted to ensure the community could always use the trails, so they reached out to LOR with a solution. LOR’s funding will help the Kootenai Nordic Club purchase two snow compactors to work alongside the existing groomer. The compactors will enable volunteers to maintain safe, well-groomed trails throughout winter, maximizing community use of the free public trail system.
