A Salad Bar Grows Cortez’s Senior Lunches

  • Local Champion: Montezuma County Department of Social Services
  • Date Funded: September 17, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $10,000

The Montezuma County Senior Center is a vital resource for Cortez’s older residents, providing nearly 300 weekday meals to seniors each month. However, the center’s limited menu (patrons have one hot meal option) has been a barrier for some seniors, including those with dietary restrictions. Staff with the Montezuma County Department of Social Services, which oversees the senior center, had heard from some patrons who wanted the center’s salad bar to return. So, they reached out to LOR with a plan to revitalize the center’s lunch program. LOR’s funding will help the senior center purchase and install a new temperature-controlled salad bar, along with a supply of fresh fruits and vegetables, making the center’s free meal service even more impactful.
