A New Initiative Offering Safe Nighttime Rides on Weekends Launches in Lander

  • Local Champion: Wind River Transportation Authority
  • Date Funded: April 26, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $29,997

Many Lander residents, including shift workers, students, and those enjoying nightlife, face significant challenges in accessing transportation during late-night weekend hours, leading to safety concerns and social isolation. Recognizing the critical need for late-night and weekend transportation services, particularly for vulnerable populations, the Wind River Transportation Authority came up with a way to fill this gap by providing on-demand transportation during these hours. The program, called SafeRide, will be available in Lander and Riverton with buses running on Friday and Saturday nights from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. LOR’s funding will help support the cost of fuel, awareness efforts, and wages for drivers.
