A New Flea Market Helps Keep Economic Dollars in Cortez While Building Community

  • Local Champion: Montezuma County
  • Date Funded: May 3, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $10,955

Each week, Cortez loses out on economic dollars when residents head to Shiprock for the flea market—something Cortez doesn’t have. Montezuma County staff wanted to change that by launching a Cortez flea market on Sundays, complete with food trucks and live music, that would allow locals to come together to shop and share time connecting as a community—and help keep those economic dollars in Cortez. LOR’s funding will help support the purchase of equipment like picnic tables and tents that will create a comfortable environment to help launch the flea market.
