A Journalism Program Prepares Monte Vista Students to Become Storytellers

  • Local Champion: A Monte Vista local
  • Date Funded: February 14, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $6,035

Monte Vista youth have limited opportunities for professional development and meaningful community engagement outside the classroom, a gap one Monte Vista local, the founder of The Church Project, a community art center, set out to fill. Her idea? Launch a quarterly journalism ambassadorship program for high school students. LOR’s funding helped The Church Project purchase cameras and lenses and provide stipends for the students and the local artists and journalists teaching in the program. The program gives students the tools to practice both short-form and long-form storytelling, providing them valuable experience applicable to any future career path.

This project is fiscally sponsored by San Luis Valley Development Resources Group.
