A Free Gear Library With Butchering Equipment Makes Hunting Accessible to More Lander Locals

  • Local Champion: Wyoming Wildlife Federation
  • Date Funded: December 19, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $29,345

Hunting is a popular activity in Lander, Wyoming, and thanks to the recent launch of some adult hunting and fishing classes, interest is only growing. But the gear needed to hunt—both the technical warm-weather clothing as well as the equipment needed to butcher and process the animals—is expensive. Further, there are few gear options designed specifically for women, who are a fast-growing segment of the hunting population. Recognizing this gap, two local hunting enthusiasts came up with an idea: Launch a hunting gear library with wild game processing equipment and hunting gear that Lander residents can check out at no cost. They just needed a little help to get things started. LOR’s funding will help support the purchase of specialized hunting gear (e.g., packs, binoculars, harnesses) as well as the equipment used in butchering animals (such as knives, stainless steel tables, vacuum bags, dehydrators, meat grinders, walk-in cooler).
