A Creative Learning Center Expands Art and Technology Training in Cortez

  • Local Champion: A Cortez local
  • Date Funded: October 17, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $2,300

Many Cortez residents, especially youth, lack opportunities to explore the performing arts, filmmaking, robotics, and other creative pursuits that could lead to future careers. After seeing a similar program thrive in another community, two local educators wanted to create a space where Cortez residents could develop these skills close to home. Their idea was to establish a creative learning center that would offer classes and activities on a sliding scale, making arts and technology education accessible to all Cortez children. LOR’s funding helped cover the legal fees and application costs the educators needed to establish a nonprofit, laying the groundwork for a new community space where Cortez youth and adults can explore their creativity and build skills for future careers.
