A Cortez Campaign Connects Supports for People with Disabilities

  • Local Champion: Our Own Lives
  • Date Funded: January 12, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $10,000

For years, those with disabilities have relied on Community Connections for support in Cortez. The nonprofit has provided people with disabilities with opportunities like professional development that would otherwise be difficult to find in rural southwest Colorado. Recent state and federal changes required the organization to split its direct service and case management programs in two, forming a separate organization dedicated to direct services. The creation of Our Own Lives, the new direct services nonprofit, has left those with disabilities and their families unsure whether to contact Our Own Lives or Community Connections. Staff reached out to the LOR Foundation with an idea to launch a branding and awareness campaign to inform families about the services the new organization offers. LOR’s funding will help Our Own Lives create a logo, website, posters, and brochures, ensuring that those with disabilities know exactly where to go for support.
