Weight Room Upgrades Expand Fitness Access in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: Sargent School District NO. Re-33j
  • Date Funded: December 4, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $15,275

Many Monte Vista students and community members want to participate in strength-building and wellness activities, but have historically lacked access to an affordable, up-to-date fitness facility near the Sargent area. After hearing from teachers, students, and parents about the need for better fitness options, a new staff member with the Sargent School District reached out to LOR with a solution: renovate the school’s underutilized weight room and open it to the surrounding community.

With LOR’s support, the district will repair the building exterior, install new restroom fixtures, purchase beginner-friendly equipment, and deep-clean the space—transforming it into a welcoming fitness facility for students, staff, and community members. The upgraded weight room will be accessible through a one-time $20 key fob deposit, making it far more affordable than the $30–$50 monthly fees at other Monte Vista gyms. This option will expand healthy recreation opportunities for a broad cross-section of residents, including but not limited to middle school students, female athletes, and families in the northern part of town.
