Updated VFW Signage Connects Lander Veterans with Available Services

  • Local Champion: Lander VFW Post 954 & Auxiliary
  • Date Funded: May 6, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $8,670

In Lander, a large veteran population lacks awareness of available support services, with many younger veterans in their 40s or below not even knowing a VFW exists locally—some have been traveling to Riverton instead. The VFW sign has been inoperable and severely faded for many years, leaving community members and visitors unsure whether the post is still active or where it’s located. When a new quartermaster hoping to breathe new life into the organization and meet the different support needs of younger generations took on his role, he developed a plan that goes beyond signage replacement. The restored, illuminated sign will serve as a welcoming beacon for veterans seeking camaraderie and help, while quarterly free luncheons featuring Veteran Service Officers will allow veterans to ask questions about disability claims, health care, and services in casual settings without appointments. Marketing efforts will ensure veterans know what services they can expect to receive. LOR’s funding helped cover sign panel replacement, painting, excavation and electrical work for illumination, promotional materials, and food for four quarterly luncheons.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Lander Community Foundation.
