Updated Computers Restore Reliable Technology Access at Lander Library

  • Local Champion: Lander Library Friends Association
  • Date Funded: December 9, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $16,018

In Lander, many residents lack home computers or internet service, relying on the library’s public computers for essential tasks like job applications, resumé writing, paying bills, and completing government forms. However, years of budget cuts have prevented technology upgrades, leaving the library’s hand-me-down computers from the courthouse prone to crashing and freezing—costing residents hours of lost work and forcing them to restart job applications multiple times. The current secondhand systems are so outdated that they can no longer receive software updates, and frustrated residents report technology failures to staff almost daily. When the branch manager recognized that another budget cut would make computer replacement impossible, she reached out to LOR for support. New computers with improved memory, speed, and processing power will provide the reliability residents need to complete their work efficiently, whether that’s a student writing a paper, a job seeker submitting applications, or a community member staying connected with distant family. LOR’s funding will help purchase 18 Dell computers for the adult, teen, and children’s sections, ensuring this essential library service remains accessible to all.
